4th Place in Homecoming!

Congratulations to the men of Delta Tau Delta and the women of Kappa Kappa Gamma on a 4th place finish in the 101st Mizzou Homecoming.  This year's theme was Famous Eras and our selection was the Roaring 20s.  The pairing finished high in several categories, including Skit, Blood, and Service.  If you didn't make it out this year, make sure to visit Columbia next year, as Delt has high hopes of finishing well again.  Check out some of the pictures below!

Delt Dad's Weekend 2012

Saturday, September 29th, was the annual Delt Dad's Weekend.  Traditionally, dads come into town early the morning of to play a round of golf with their sons and then somewhere afterwards to watch the Mizzou football game... and of course, eat LOTS of food!  Because of an early kickoff against Central Florida, pairings were able to choose between 9 and 18 holes, and then meet at the Quinton's rooftop for a full buffet as well as beverages of choice.  The weather was great, and everybody had a great time.  If you weren't able to make it last year, certainly plan on joining us next Fall!  Check out some of the pictures from Quinton's below.

BBQ For Needham Family

Although this past month has been a challenging time for the Gamma Kappa chapter, some positive moments have certainly shown through.  One of these moments was apparent last Tuesday, September 4, 2012, as Delt teamed up with the Mizzou Rec Center to host a BBQ to raise money for the Needham family.

Here's the numbers: 860 Mizzou students attended the BBQ, raising a grand total of $6,680 to be donated to the Needham family. Gamma Kappa would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming support shown by the community and the University. We appreciate everybody's help, and would not have been able to do it without you. Check out a couple pictures below of the event.

Delt Renovations

As the Fall semester has gotten under way, Delt has been getting used to all of the exciting new changes.  Besides Mizzou's first SEC game tomorrow, a noticeable change has been to the Delt shelter.  Thanks to the hard work of several members over the summer, including some Delt dad's, the house looks "brand new".  If you haven't been able to stop by and take a tour, hopefully some of these pictures will suffice.

RIP Kelly Needham

On Saturday morning, Gamma Kappa brother Timothy "Kelly" Needham died after battling in the ICU for nearly a week at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau, Wisconsin.  Thousands of Mizzou students have shown their love and support for Kelly.  He was a true inspiration for all of us, and will be truly missed and never forgotten.  The past two weeks have been a particularly trying time for his Gamma Kappa brothers, but one thing remains true that none of us will forget: Brotherhood Sustains Us.  For ways to support the Needham family, please contact President Charlie Landis.

Delts Emerging as Leaders

This summer, three Gamma Kappa Delts participated in leadership opportunities provided by the fraternity.
Pictured above: (from left to right) President Charlie Landis (F2K9) and Recruitment Chairman Matt Swihart (F2K10) pose for a picture at Karnea 2012 with Chapter Advisor Jim Meyer

Karnea is a biennial conference held in cities throughout all of North America, playing host to chapters world-wide.  Known as the "greatest of all Delt events", this conference serves as a learning opportunity for members and alumni together, as well as a meeting place to conduct chapter business.  Gamma Kappa was able to send two of its members this year, which took place in Austin, Texas.

Pictured above: Austin Stumpe (F2K11) takes a picture as he captains the ship he is aboard.

Gamma Kappa was also proud to send one its younger members, Austin Stumpe, to the Sailing Leadership Academy.  Hosted in Camdon, ME, Delt brothers learn to sail the schooner Mary Day, a 115-foot sailing vessel as they navigate the Penobscot Bay in Maine.  In addition to sailing, brothers learn more about Delt rituals and are also asked to take a look at their own character and leadership styles.  This academy is application based, and among a few of the academies/conferences Gamma Kappa continually encourages its members to participate in.
